Charterhall appointed TRCB to reinvigorate an important city block in the heart of the Perth CBD. The site consists of a three-level retail mall, the BankWest office tower and several significant heritage buildings. A cinema now anchors the project in the podium of the tower, and new laneways and entrances increase the legibility of the location. Substantial demolition, as well as retention and restoration of historic facades, were integral to the reconfiguration.

Completed concurrently with Yagan Square – and adjacent to Perth’s major bus and rail interchanges – the project’s scope encompassed the repurposing of the historic Royal Hotel into a boutique tavern. This included the restoration of the façade to more accurately reflect the early twentieth century period: reinstating tuck-pointed face brickwork, exposed render stucco, and extending the reconstruction of the verandah.

The high-quality revitalisation of Raine Square makes a significant contribution to the streetscape, skyline and amenity of the locality while enhancing the historic character and ambience of the CBD. By improving pedestrian permeability and catering for wide-ranging retail, hospitality and entertainment options, this urban hub is now a living part of contemporary city life.
