Wesley College Science

Opening Date: May 2017

The existing three level science building is located within the heart of the College’s heritage precinct and proved to be a tight and challenging site, limiting the options for expanding the building envelope.

Taylor Robinson increased the floor space by fusing two additional wings to the north west and north east corners of the uninspired 1950’s floorplan and rigid concrete and masonry structure. The traditional laboratories were replanned into modern learning spaces resulting in eight labs over three levels supported by localised tech hubs with stores and agile learning areas.

The new exterior elevations reflect the existing aesthetic of red brick and white painted concrete. The northwest extension cantilevers over the new lower ground entry walkway and is skinned by thermal glazing protected by a striking graphic pattern of spectrum coloured louvres.
