Scotch Early Learning Centre

Date: 2016

Scotch Early Learning Centre converts two existing Boarding Houses into open-plan pre-primary classrooms, each with a dedicated outdoor area with a focus on nature play. The learning spaces will be linked with a new, multi-purpose hall accommodating a central arts atelier and adjacent staff offices. Playfully skewing the pitched roof-lines of the existing buildings, the new addition creates a colourful Western façade reminiscent of terraced houses.

The interior is premised on the ‘Reggio Emilia Approach’ which recognises the environment for its potential to inspire, nurture and empower children. A number of design strategies have been implemented in line with this approach, including views to the outdoors, natural light and materials, neutral colours, indoor plants, designated spaces for large and small groups, as well as artwork and material displays.
