Date: 2009

This project establishes a new way of teaching Year 7 students as they enter High School. A group of 60 students are taught by two teachers using the team teaching model; in this way students can benefit from the skills of teachers with differing specialisations.

The new classrooms create a digital learning environment: sunlight is controlled in an indirect manner to suit screen-based activities. In contrast to the classroom; the studios are sunny places with northern aspect and connections to individually landscaped courtyard gardens.

The sequence of spaces from playground to verandah to classroom to studio and finally to courtyard gardens creates a range of environments in which to learn with increasing autonomy and trust. The teachers and students enjoy the classrooms and the opportunities provided by the team teaching environment, the use of the studios and the adjoining gardens.
