Bunbury Catholic College Marist Campus

JV partners CODA and Taylor Robinson Chaney Broderick delivered an extensive re-imaging of Bunbury Catholic College’s Marist campus. A brick base references the existing fabric of the school and grounds the building over two levels. At the upper level, the entry binds the building to the rest of the campus. At the lower level, classrooms are positioned to take advantage of the views across playing fields. As the upper level raises it becomes a lightweight steel-clad box.

Internally, the floor plan has been oriented to take advantage of the view whilst also offering a range of spatial opportunities, such as large opening doors to the exterior and flexible walls between teaching spaces. Large balconies further blur boundaries between inside and out; a range of upholstered seating options provides flexibility in how students arrange themselves through the day.

The main volume of the library combines a rich assortment of materials. Coloured light scoops add a moment of unexpected whimsy, whilst plywood linings and furniture add to its warmth.
