The Garden

Date: 2009

The $4.8 million refurbishment of the old bottleshop site is the first stage in the refurbishment of the historic Leederville Hotel.  The brief called for a design that was 'uniquely Leederville'; one that would evolve over time as Leederville continues to establish itself as an entertainment precinct.  The Garden is a flexible, relaxed venue that blurs the boundaries between its interior and open outdoor spaces. Large extents of the existing building fabric were retained (particularly along the Newcastle St facade) and used as the driving force behind the new design.  The resulting space showcases the layered history of the original structure whilst sensitively injecting a new eclectic material palette.
